Thank you for being here! I’m Sonja Clark, owner of 317headshots. I love being a photographer. I’ve been a professional photographer for more than 15 years. Over the years I have honed my skills to specialize in dance and headshot photography. I work with Indianapolis Ballet and dance students around the state under my other brand Moonbug Photography.
317headshots evolved alongside my dance photography business. As I worked with dancers, I learned a lot about how the human body moves and how it looks best which helped me learn how to position people in flattering ways in headshots. I can teach my clients how to look their best with facial expression coaching while taking into account subtle body language. There’s definitely an art to it. Research shows that 93% of communication is non-verbal.

Yes, I will make you look polished, not plastic. We will have a discussion about retouching while we are choosing your final images. Retouching usually includes exposure and contrast adjustments, removing stray hairs, light glasses glare, and brightening teeth and eyes. I also remove or reduce temporary skin imperfections.
Wrinkles in clothing cannot be retouched most of the time, so remember to bring freshly ironed clothing.
To look your best for your photoshoot, remember to read the preparation guide that I send you. A link will be in your appointment confirmation email.
The most important thing to remember when choosing what to wear for your photoshoot, no matter what type, is to wear something that you feel good in. You can always call me and we can talk it through.
FIT
Your clothes should fit you just right. Clothing that is too big will make you look bigger and sloppy. Make sure the buttons are not pulling on your button-down shirt and that you can button your jacket. Your shirt and jacket collar should fit properly around your neck without a gap between your shirt and collar. If you are doing a full-body photo, stay away from baggy, wide legged pants.
Keep it Simple
Wear clothing that is not seasonal. You want to look relevant all year round.
Color
Jewel tones are universally flattering. Avoid wearing tops in flesh tones (cream, beige, pastels, peach or yellow) as they will blend your face into your clothes.
Black – black is classic, but can make you appear heavy and somber. If your hair is black, it will blend in to your jacket. Consider a color, but wear it if it’s “you”.
A fail-safe tip is to pick a top that accentuates your eyes and goes well with your skin tone.
No matter what your brand is, whether you are casual or formal, make sure your clothing is clean and freshly ironed.
Yes, I do. Using a good hair and make-up artist can make your skin look flawless and enhance your features. She will also make you look appropriate according to the type of photo you need.
If you want to use an HMUA, please contact me before you schedule your session to discuss times. There is also an additional cost of $150.
Yes. I have a spacious dressing room for you to change in.
I will take as many photos as we need to until we find your best angles and your best expressions. You will see all of your photos at the session when we pick them out, so we can be sure that we get the looks you want.

Approximately 1 week. 24-hour Rush delivery is available for $100 per image.
Your appointment is very important to me. It is reserved especially for you. I understand that sometimes schedule adjustments are necessary. Therefore, we respectfully request at least 72 hours notice for cancellations and reschedules.
Any cancellations with less than 72 hours notice are subject to an additional fee amounting to the cost of the scheduled session.
